In the early years of our parish, the office staff and maintenance positions were held by volunteers who were members of our church. There were few of us families who rotated on an as needed basis to mow the lawn and trim the bushes. On one very hot summer day, us girls in the office looked out the front window and saw our new priest cutting the lawn with an ancient push mower. We looked at each other and knew that he was going to be an “alright guy”. He was sweating so hard that water was just pouring from his forehead, down his nose and dripping from the cigar he had dangling from his mouth. I will never forget that picture. He was Fr. Frederick Flaherty and was with us from 1981-1988. We all pitched in and worked together way backed then, and it has continued through all these years to make St. Matthew the wonderful parish that it is today. Dan and I are so thankful for the 40yrs we have had here and all of the great families we have met.
Thanks for the memories,
